Overall objectives:
1 - Apply basic knowledge of linear algebra and differential calculus, as well as concepts of descriptive statistics and probability, to practical problems in accounting and taxation.
2 - Develop logical-deductive reasoning and the abilities to analyse, interpret data, and think abstractly.
3 - Foster skills in modelling, analytical rigour, and the communication and presentation of quantitative data and results.
4 - Apply mathematical and statistical methods to solve problems.
5 - Manipulate matrices, solve linear systems, compute derivatives, interpret rates of change, organise and analyse data using descriptive statistics, and calculate probabilities.
6 - Consolidate knowledge of mathematics in pre-higher education, developing numerical manipulation and problem-solving skills.

2 - Differential calculation with real functions of a real variable.

2.3 - Rate of change and derivative: definition and geometric interpretation.
2.4 - Derivatives: derivation rules and applications.
3 - Introduction to descriptive statistics and data analysis.
3.1 - Data organisation and presentation.
3.2 - Measures of central tendency and variability.
3.3 - Analysis and interpretation of findings.
4 - Introduction to probability theory.
4.1 - Fundamental concepts of probability.
4.2 - Simple and conditional probability.
4.3 - Odds and odds ratios.

Evaluation Methodology:
Teaching methodologies: Lectures and practical classes combining exposition with problem-solving activities. Assessment method: Assessment is quantitative (0-20 scale) and is based on one of the following sets of assessment components (to be defined by the course lecturer at the beginning of the semester): (i) Two mid-term tests, each with equal weighting in the final grade; (ii) Three mid-term tests, with weightings of 30%, 30%, and 40% in the final grade.
