Overall objectives:

1 - Know general concepts of communication.
2 - Understand the importance of communication in establishing interpersonal relationships in the work context.
3 - Understand the importance of adapting communication to different audiences and cultures.
4 - Apply communication techniques in the interaction with the elderly person and the community.
5 - Recognize the need and importance of adapting the principles of communication in the professional relationship.
6 - Understand the importance of teamwork and its relationship with the quality of services.
7 - Apply communication skills in interaction with the elderly and with community groups.
8 - Understand conflict in its aspects and its impact on professional performance.
9 - Know conflict management strategies.

Syllabus:

1 - Communication: Elements of the communication process; communication levels; general principles of communication; types of communication and their adequacy to identified needs; communication functions; styles communicational; rules for effective communication
2 - Importance of communication in interpersonal relationships; communication techniques in the face of specific experiences and behaviors; communication and interculturality.
3 - Interpersonal relationships: types of relationship; interpersonal relationship (elderly person, groups, services and multidisciplinary team); group concepts; group dynamic; communication in the group.
4 - Conflict: Traditional view versus current view of conflict; types of conflict; conflict in the work context; ways of dealing with conflict; skills to deal with conflict; techniques for effectively resolving disputes.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
The aim is to acquire and apply the knowledge foreseen in the objectives and syllabus contents. Assessment Methodology: Classification Type: Quantitative (0-20) Assessment according to Model B of the UMa Student Learning Assessment Regulation, namely in normal season. The approval of the curricular unit implies approval in all components (minimum 9.5). There is possibility of recovery in resource/improvement season for all components. The final classification is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20 values and is the teacher's responsibility.
