Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering
A fundamental aim of the doctorate programme in Automation and Instrumentation in the field of Electronic Engineering is to contribute towards the creation of highly qualified researchers with the skills to carry out research projects autonomously whether in the university context or in other economic related areas (namely the business sector).
The main aim of this cycle of studies is to promote the acquisition of the highest level of knowledge and skills in Automation and Instrumentation, namely those related to monitoring and control systems; electronics, instrumentation and hardware support platforms; telecommunications support solutions and power systems.
The doctorate in Automation and Instrumentation is divided into two components. The first year is dedicated to the curricular component and the last two are used to work on the elaboration of an original theses. Upon completion of the 60 ECTS (obligatory curricular component) students are awarded a Diploma of Advanced Studies.
The degree was recognized by the order of 08-06-2012 of the Secretary of State for Education and School Administration. It is aimed at those who intend to further develop their teaching career in basic education (recruitment group – 540); 3rd cycles and secondary education as foreseen in the terms of article 54 of the Teaching Career Statute.

The cycle of studies geared towards obtaining a Doctorate in Automation and Instrumentation is comprised of 6 semesters (3 academic years). Those who obtain 180 ECTS are awarded the title.

Career Opportunities and Employability
Graduates will be able to: collaborate in companies and organizations lacking advanced skills in Electronic Engineering in the areas of Automation and Instrumentation; carry out duties linked to research and teaching in Higher Education; carry out duties linked to research within the scope of institutions and research centres or become self-employed.
Candidates
Eligible applicants must have a masters degree or a legal equivalent; hold an undergraduate degree or a relevant school or scientific curriculum recognized by the members of the Scientific Council.
