Master's Degree in Applied Biochemistry
The first year of the 2nd cycle of Applied Biochemistry implies attending eight curricular units - compulsory and optional - which aims to demonstrate to students the importance and contribution of Biochemistry to the development of other fields of knowledge, namely health, food and environmental.
The second year of the course includes the development of a project (predominantly laboratory, carried out in a research or business environment) that enables the student to develop his/her knowledge, skills and competences in one of the more specific application areas of Biochemistry - according to their areas of interest.
The Master's Degree in Applied Biochemistry has the support, in terms of human and physical resources, of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Engineering, Faculty of Life Sciences and CQM - Centro de Química da Madeira (Chemistry Center of Madeira, a research center belonging to the National Network of R&D units funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology).
GENERAL INFORMATION
The course aims at obtaining a master's degree in Applied Biochemistry, it’s comprised by 4 semesters (2 academic years), being awarded a degree to those whom obtain 120 ECTS. This master's degree aims to provide a comprehensive, solid and up-to-date academic training in the field of Biochemistry, strongly focused on the practical aspects of this science.

Graduates of this course may exercise functions: in higher education institutions, institutes and research centers; In companies and industries - in the areas of Biotechnology, Environment, Food and Pharmaceuticals; In laboratories of chemical, biochemical, microbiological analysis; in scientific journalism, in public and regulatory agencies commissions.
Candidates
This course is especially intended for all holders of a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy or related fields. Who can apply for this course: the holders of the degree or the legal equivalence; holders of a foreign higher academic degree recognized as satisfying the objectives of the degree; holders of a scientific or professional curriculum recognized by those responsible for the study cycle as attesting to their ability to complete the study cycle.
