Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics

The cycle of studies geared towards obtaining an Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics is comprised of 6 semesters (3 academic years). Those who successfully obtain 180 ECTS are awarded the title.
Covering the scientific areas of Mathematics, Physics, Computing, Economics and Management, this degree, in addition to stimulating and developing scientific reasoning, accuracy, formalization, argumentation, critical awareness, abstraction and autonomy, it offers a sound education in theoretical and applied Mathematics.
Knowledge acquired throughout the degree is essential to attend any masters in the area of Mathematics or other related areas, whether aimed at research, education or any business-related activities.
Mathematics is a transversal area in human knowledge and is the basis of Science and Technology.

Career Opportunities and Employability

Graduates in Mathematics, by the University of Madeira, have the necessary skills to carryout technical or consulting duties, namely activities which involve the mathematical treatment of large volumes of information, whether it is within the scope of model construction or in forecasting and research problems. Thus, graduates of this degree are qualified to immediately enter the job market in several areas of the service industries especially in banking, insurance, trade, software companies, financial advice, public administration, among others.

Candidates

This course is directed at those who seek to develop their knowledge and reasoning ability in a sound and consolidated way, in the different areas of Mathematics.
Candidates may apply via the National Higher Education Access contest, providing they successfully pass the required entrance examinations. Candidates may also enrol via special regimes such as change of course/institution, other special contests in force or the International Student Statute.
